Laundry sheets vs. liquid detergent
Same load of laundry. Two very different packages.

|---|---|---|
| Cost per load | About 30¢ | From 20¢ |
| Weight | About 6 lb | About 3 oz |
| Dosing | Measuring cup, guesswork, spills | Pre-measured. One sheet. |
| Cold water | Depends on the formula | Dissolves completely |
| Packaging | A plastic jug | Plastic-free cardboard box |
| Shelf space | A full shelf | A drawer, a bag, a pocket |
| Machine types | Varies by formula | HE, front-load, top-load, standard |

Tear. Toss. Wash.
How to use laundry detergent sheets
No cap to fill, no measuring, no drips down the side of a jug. The sheet goes in the drum with your clothes — not in the detergent tray.
Pull a sheet out
The box sits in a drawer or on a shelf. Close the flap and the rest stay dry.
Toss it in
Straight into the drum, on top of the clothes. Hot or cold water, HE or standard machine.
Run the wash
The sheet dissolves during the fill. Nothing left behind on darks.
How much to use
| Regular load | 1 full sheet |
| Small or lightly soiled load | ½ sheet |
| Large or heavily soiled load | 2 sheets |
| Hand washing in a sink or basin | ½ sheet |
That’s where “up to 100 loads” comes from. 50 sheets is 50 full loads. Halving sheets for the small stuff is what takes a box to 100 — and to 20¢ a load.

Why sheets instead of liquid
No measuring, so no over-dosing
Most people over-pour liquid detergent. A sheet is pre-measured, so every load gets the same dose — which is also why clothes come out without that stiff, soapy feel.
Nothing to spill
No sticky cap, no blue ring on the shelf, no half-empty jug taking up a shelf you wanted back.
What’s left out, and what it comes in
Paraben free, phthalate free and phosphate free, with no bleach. Vegan and cruelty free. The box is cardboard and goes in your recycling, and there’s no plastic jug to throw away.
Lighter to ship
A jug of liquid is mostly water. A box of sheets weighs about 3 oz, against about 6 lb for a 90-oz jug, so it’s easy to carry home, store or pack.

Laundry detergent sheets FAQ
Straight answers to the questions people actually ask before their first box.
Do laundry detergent sheets work?
Yes, for everyday laundry. Each sheet carries a measured dose of surfactants, the same kind of cleaning ingredients used in liquid detergent, in a film that dissolves in the wash. When people are disappointed by sheets, it’s usually one of two things: one sheet on a large or heavily soiled load (use two), or the sheet put in the dispenser drawer instead of the drum.
Are laundry sheets better than liquid detergent?
They do the same job in a different format. The differences are practical: every sheet is pre-measured, so there’s nothing to over-pour; a box weighs about 3 oz instead of about 6 lb; nothing can spill; and it comes in a plastic-free cardboard box instead of a plastic jug. If you like to pre-treat stains with a liquid, you can keep doing that and still wash with a sheet.
Are laundry sheets the same as laundry strips or laundry soap sheets?
Yes. Laundry sheets, laundry strips, laundry soap sheets and washer sheets are all names for the same thing: pre-measured detergent in a thin, dry sheet.
How do you use laundry detergent sheets?
Put one sheet in the drum on top of your clothes, then run your usual cycle. Use half a sheet for a small load and two for a large or heavily soiled one. For hand washing, dissolve half a sheet in a sink or basin of water, add your clothes, then rinse.
Can I put a sheet in the detergent drawer?
No. Put it in the drum with your clothes. Detergent drawers are built for liquid and can hold a sheet back before it dissolves.
What’s the difference between Fresh Meadow and Fragrance Free?
Fresh Meadow has a light, clean scent that fades as clothes dry. Fragrance Free is unscented: no added fragrance, no dyes and no masking scent. Both come in the same box of 50, up to 100 loads.
Do you make unscented laundry sheets?
Yes. Fragrance Free has no added fragrance and no dyes. It’s our unscented option.
Will it dissolve in cold water?
Yes. The sheet is a polyvinyl alcohol film designed to dissolve in cold water, and the machine agitates during the fill, which speeds it up further. Put the sheet in the drum with your clothes rather than in the detergent tray — trays are built for liquid and can hold a sheet back.
Will it leave residue on dark clothes?
It should not. There is no filler and nothing to over-pour, which is the usual cause of white streaking on darks. If you do see anything, it is almost always an overloaded drum — clothes need room to move for any detergent to rinse out.
Is one sheet really enough for a full load?
For a regular load, yes. For a large or heavily soiled load, use two. For a small or lightly soiled load, tear one in half. That is the whole dosing system — and halving sheets for the small loads is what takes a box from 50 loads to 100.
Does it work in hard water?
The Fresh Meadow sheets include sodium citrate and a water conditioner, both of which are there to stop hard-water minerals from blunting the surfactants. If you have hard water and you have been disappointed by detergent sheets before, that is usually the reason.
Is it safe for HE machines?
Yes — HE, front-load, top-load and standard machines. It is low-sudsing, which is what HE machines need.
Can I use them for hand washing or in a sink?
Yes. Dissolve half a sheet in a sink or basin of warm or cold water, add your clothes, then rinse.
What if scented detergent bothers someone?
Choose Fragrance Free. It has no added fragrance, no dyes and no masking scent. The Fresh Meadow version contains Linalool, a fragrance ingredient recognized as a potential skin allergen, so if anyone in the house reacts to scented detergent, take the unscented one. Every ingredient is disclosed here.
How should I store it, and does it go off?
Keep the box closed and somewhere dry — a laundry cupboard or a drawer is ideal. The sheets are designed to dissolve in water, so the one thing to avoid is damp. Stored dry they keep their full strength for well over a year.
How does the subscription work?
Pick “Subscribe & save” above and choose how often you want it. You save 15% on every delivery, and you can skip a shipment, change the date or cancel from your account at any time. No minimum number of orders. A box is 50 to 100 loads, so most households land on every two or three months.
What if I don’t like it?
Tell us within 30 days of delivery and we’ll refund you or send a replacement — your choice. You don’t ship anything back; keep whatever is left or recycle it. That’s the Keep It or Toss It Guarantee. Read how it works.
